Partner primary schools

We work very closely with our Partner Primary Schools, Our staff visit local primary schools on a regular basis to work with younger pupils and staff on English, Maths and Language skills. We also invite pupils from Years 4 to 6 to visit Cowplain and take part in PE activities and dance and technology workshops. Working closely with our Partner Primaries enables a smooth transition to secondary school.

We support local primary schools with a Business project where we teach Year 6 pupils about running a business, including marketing, advertising and how to prepare effective presentations.

We also support primary schools with their productions by sending Year 11 GCSE Dance and Drama students to help choreograph and direct their performances. We have volunteer students from our Backstage Club who teach pupils about sound and lighting techniques.

In the summer term Year 5 and 6 pupils are invited to The Cowplain School to work with pupils from different schools to solve problems, experience what life is like at Cowplain and get to know members of staff.

Towards the end of the summer term our staff visit each Partner Primary School, along with some of our Year 7 Student Ambassadors, to speak with the Year 6 pupils about the transition to The Cowplain School. They have the opportunity to ask questions and complete a CV about themselves which we pass to their new Tutor and the Pastoral Team.

Pupils who choose The Cowplain School from outside of the local area are invited to visit and meet our staff; pupils have a tour of the school and spend time with other Year 6 pupils.

Our SENCO and our Learning Support Key Teachers meet with the SENCO of the primary schools in the summer term to gather information about pupils who will be transferring to us with Special Educational Needs.
