Assessment and Reporting
Assessment and Reporting 2024-25
At the Cowplain School (TCS) we have a regular and rigorous whole school assessments for all year groups twice a year and all assessment results are published in students reports and available on Insight.
Every report for every student in every year group contains the following:
1) The assessment results in form of a percentage and the average assessment result of all the students who have completed the assessment.
2) The students’ pathway, which gives students a target grade range not limiting students to one specific target grade.
In the guided pathway students are aiming for a grade 5. The scaffolded students are aiming for a 5 to 7 grade range and the independent students are aiming for a 7 to 9 grade range. The terms guided, scaffolded and independent describe the type of learning we would expect student to do, e.g. scaffolded students receive more support by the teacher scaffolding the learning for them, while independent students are expected to work more independently.
3) An attitude to learning and an attitude to home learning grade (ATL and ATH criteria can be found here).
4) An indication whether the student is currently exceeding (E), meeting (M) or a concern (C) in relation to their target pathway.
5) A rank order position for each subject and the average KS2 rank order (based on English and Maths, if available) on entry for comparison. This rank order information will be used to change class sets. This especially applies to students from Year 7 to Year 10 as sets in Y11 are generally kept the same.
All assessments, except for practical assessments, take place in the hall in Year 11 and the second assessment for Y10. For all other year groups assessment take place in the classroom. Students have an assessment themed reflection time three weeks before the assessments start, followed by two weeks of revision in class and home learning is based around revision too.
Year 11:
In Year 11, students have regular extended learning checks to facilitate frequent exam practice followed by detailed feedback on how to improve. These extended learning check points take place every other week in Core Subjects (English, Maths and Science) and every 3 weeks in all other subjects. This extended assessment period is used to in inform the first set of students’ reports. The students’ reports will be publish in the week of the 18th of November, followed by an online Year 11 parents evening on Thursday 21st November.
